We have been working with Magnomatics for 20 years, almost since the formation of the company. We have seen them develop into one of the most exciting engineering companies in the UK. Specialising in the design and manufacture of magnetically geared transmission systems, and magnetically geared motors.
In this presentation we created for Magnomatics, the presenter explains the mechanics and advantages of Magnomatics' magnetically geared transmission systems. These gears utilise an inner and outer ring of magnetic elements with steel pole pieces, operating without physical contact to eliminate friction, wear, and power loss. This contactless architecture allows the system to act as a natural torque fuse and enables hermetically sealed motors for use in harsh environments. The video highlights the Pseudo Direct Drive (PDD) configuration, which integrates magnetic gears with electric motors to achieve high power density, low maintenance, and high efficiency. While specifically designed for submersible craft propulsion, the technology is presented as scalable for other environments, including high-altitude applications.
