What does Artificial Intelligence mean for animation?

Many people involved in creative content production like ourselves are asking themselves how we can use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance what we do, and we at Think Allowed, as you may have guessed, are specifically interested in what this means for 3D animation.  What we have discovered is actually both interesting and exciting.  As with many aspects of computing, it turns out that AI can take away many of the tedious repetitive aspects of the workflow, like generating backgrounds, in-between frames, or even animating simple movements, it still struggles with the level of creativity and nuance that human animators bring to their work.

Animation is not just about creating movement; it involves storytelling, character development, emotion, and artistic expression. These aspects require human imagination, intuition, and the ability to make creative decisions. Animators bring their unique style, artistic vision, and understanding of human emotions to breathe life into characters and make them relatable to audiences. AI, on the other hand, lacks the human touch and understanding of context that animators possess.

Malcom X said 'the future belongs to those who prepare for it today'.  It's therefore crucial for animators and other professionals to adapt to technological advancements, embrace new tools, and continue to develop skills to stay relevant in a changing landscape.  AI is here, so let's embrace it!
